KATHMANDU, April 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Finance Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, who are facing a contempt of court charge, have committed to judicial independence and rule of law.

In separate replies to the Supreme Court on Thursday, they said they had no role in the street protests against the Supreme Court order that stayed the government decision to pension off eight brigadier generals of Nepal Army.

On March 24, Justice Kalyan Shrestha stayed the government decision, something not liked by the Maoists.

In his reply to the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister said he was neither involved in the protests nor did he direct the protests against the stay order. Similarly, Bhattarai told the court that he always respected judicial independence and rule of law.
