KATHMANDU, April 28: The process of party registration at the Election Commission office for new Constituent Assembly (CA) elections has resumed following talks between UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML, on Tuesday.
Both the disputing parties had earlier argued that they reached the EC office first and therefore their party should be registered first. The resumption of party registration has been possible after the EC maintained that the serial number on the ballot paper for contesting parties will be determined later on. [break]
As per general practice, the political party registered first is on the top of the list and other parties follow accordingly down the order. For now, UML has been listed on the top followed by UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Prajantra Party Nepal, Nepali Congress and CPN-ML in the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively in the series .
Earlier, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and UCPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairman Baburam Bhattarai had reached the EC office to settle the row. Representatives of various parties had reached to the EC office since early this morning for party registration. Security personnel have been mobilized at the EC premises to avoid possible scuffle between the two sides.
