Bikram Pariyar of Armed Police Force (APF) and Niranjan Shrestha of Nepal Police Club (NPC) reached the semifinals of men´s 49 kg weight category in the National Invitational Elite Women´s and Men´s Boxing Championship organized by Purveli Yuva Club in Birtamod, Jhapa. [break]
Pariyar defeated Dhanaraj Mahato of Nepal Army while Shrestha edged past Sunil Nagarkoti of Kathmandu to advance into the semifinals. Likewise, Sushil Thapa of Kathmandu beat another boxer from Kathmandu, Kamal Khadka and Ash Tamang of APF thrashed Narendra Gurung of Rolpa to complete the semifinal line-up.
In men´s 52 kg, Prem Chaudhary of Nepal Army beat Gaurav Singh Bohara of Kanchanpur while Nikesh Shrestha of Jhapa edged past Shambhu Rajbanshi of Jhapa to reach the semifinals. NPC´s Sudesh Manandhar, a national team boxer, outclassed Sudeep Tamang of Jhapa and Kabindra Maharjan of APF beat Nabin Limbu of Sunsari to join Chaudhary and Shrestha in the last four.
Similarly, Dinesh Shrestha of NPC, Puran Rai of APF, Mahesh Ale Magar of Sunsari and Umesh Tamang of Nepal Army secured berths in the semifinals of men´s 56 kg weight category.
In men´s 60 kg, Purna Bahadur Lama of APF, Gopal Sunuwar and Dan Bahadur Darlami and Suman Lama of NPC reached the semifinals.
Min Kumar Gurung of Nepal Army beat Tara Prasad Pun Magar of Rolpa and Dilip Lama of APF beat Surendra Kathayat of NPC to enter the last four in men´s 69 kg section.
Meanwhile, Jeevan Chhetri of Nawalparasi defeated Bikash Lama of APF in the first round of men´s 64 kg weight category.
