KATHMANDU, March 1: The incident of Min Bahadur Blon and Devi Maya beating their son to near death on suspicion of theft in Indra Sarovar Municipality-3, Aduwabari, Makwanpur, has raised suspicions and police are continuing their investigation.
On Thursday, 64-year-old Min Bahadur Blon and Devi Maya severely beat their 39-year-old son, Bharat Kumar Blon, accusing him of being a thief.
Severely injured from the beating, Bharat Kumar Blon died during treatment at Bharatpur Hospital on Friday. The police took him into custody from Min Bahadur's house in Aduwabari on Thursday night with serious head injuries and rushed him to Hetauda Hospital for treatment.
The authorities took him to Bharatpur Hospital for further treatment, where he died at 3 pm on Friday.
The police questioned Min Bahadur and Devi Maya about the incident. According to DSP Shyamu Aryal from the District Police Office (DPO), Makwanpur, the couple stated that they beat Bharat Kumar, believing him to be a thief.
According to their statement, Bharat entered the house around 8 pm on Thursday night wearing a mask. As soon as he entered, he threw chili powder at his parents, who were preparing to eat.
They stated that they did not recognize him as their son and mistook him for a thief, reacting defensively. They mentioned that they used whatever they found in the kitchen to hit him, and the masked person also attacked the elderly couple. During their statement, they told the police that a scuffle occurred inside the house between the two parties.
The couple captured the suspicious "thief", tied him up, and called the police.
"We received a call asking the police to come quickly," DSP Aryal said.
After receiving the call late at night, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Prasad Yadav led a police team to the scene. The police station in Sisneri is about 4-5 kilometers away from Min Bahadur’s house.
When the police arrived, they found the person, labeled as a thief, in a bloody state with blood flowing from his head. Min Bahadur had injuries to his hands, face, and head, while Devi Maya had injuries to her eyes and hands.
The police only realized he was their son when they found Bharat's passport in a bag in the house.
Because Min Bahadur had a broken arm and Devi Maya had injuries to her hand and eye, the police brought them to Kathmandu on Friday for further treatment.
Police investigations revealed that Bharat had only returned home after two years. However, the parents' statement, claiming they mistakenly attacked their own son without recognizing him, remains mysterious, prompting the police to investigate into their suspicious intent for the murder, according to DSP Aryal.
“It is impossible not to recognize your own son after a scuffle that lasted all night. We are also investigating from that perspective,” he said.
An officer involved in the investigation stated that villagers mentioned a property dispute between Bharat and his parents.
The police are investigating this matter and preparing to question other family members of Bharat.
