KATHMANDU, June 10: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has ordered the authorities concerned to seize two drugs -- Albandazole Suspension and Paracetamol -- from the market.
The OMPCM took the decision after finding that these drugs are being sold in the market at inflated prices.
The meeting of the OPMCM held on Sunday under the chairmanship of acting secretary Naindra Prasad Upadhaya directed the concerned authorities to implement the decisions taken by the Central Monitoring Committee. [break]
The committee, among others, had proposed to the government to seize the products. It has also instructed owners of two pharmacies that were found selling date expired medicines to appear in person before the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) at the earliest.
Upadhyaya also instructed the concerned authorities to bring pharmacies selling date expired drugs to book and take action against those involving in inflating medicine prices.
Meanwhile, the OPMCM has asked authorities to register businesses dealing on meat and meat products by establishing proper coordination with Kathmandu Municipality, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, and Department of Livestock Services.
The OPMCM issued the direction after studying market monitoring report prepared by the joint monitoring team of Kathmandu Municipality, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, and Department of Livestock Services.
The report had showed that many shops selling meat and meat products do not have basic infrastructures like deep freezer. They were also not found maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
The meeting also decided to make food inspectors the focal persons to monitor hotels, restaurants and businesses dealing on food commodities.
