Number of independent candidates filing nominations from Dhanusha this time has increased by 100 per cent compared to the last CA election. [break]
Some 62 independent candidates had registered their candidacy from Dhanusha alone in the first CA election while the number has increased to 125 in the November 19 election.
The rise to the number of independent candidates is triggered by lack of unity among candidates of the political parties and election code of conduct stipulated by Election Commission, said civil society leader Prof Bijaya Dutta.
He said that some of the political parties here have presented proxy candidates to show their compliance to election code of conduct. The EC-stipulated code of conduct has clearly stated that a candidate is allowed to use two vehicles and spend up to one million rupees in maximum limit.
However, the political parties have tactfully presented such proxy candidates so that they could use more number of vehicles and spend huge chunk of money to influence voters.
Among the independent candidates in Dhanusha are 14 in constituency no. 1, 17 in constituency no. 2, 30 in constituency no. 3, 32 in constituency no. 4, 31 in constituency no. 5, 15 in constituency no. 6 and 17 in constituency no. 7.
