KATHMANDU, Sept 6: National Sports Council (NSC) is all set to officially launch a special training program from Thursday targeting the 12th South Asian Games (SAG).

NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama met the selected players and coaches on Tuesday and said that the early training is to ensure more medals in the 12th SAG than in earlier events.[break]

“There was a trend of launching training program only shortly before the tournament, and we want to end this practice,” said Lama. “We´ll surely improve facilities for players. We are planning to improve diet provided to players,” claimed Lama.

NSC, in association with different national associations, has selected altogether 61 athletes, including 21 women, for the preliminary round of the training.

NSC has started trainings for athletics, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, taekwondo, wushu and karate.

NSC board has decided to establish a hostel of its own for the athletes. NSC is renovating a building within its premises for the purpose.
