KATHMANDU, July 23: The long-standing dispute of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has come to an end as its two warring factions have settled their animosity by signing an agreement on Wednesday.

The NOC got into turmoil five years ago after a Supreme Court decision reinstated the executive committee of Rukma Shumsher Rana while Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan-led committee got the backing of the International Olympic Committee. Both sides reconciled on Wednesday for the sake of Nepali sports.

"Keeping in mind our Olympic movement, we have decided to move ahead hand-in-hand for the greater good of the entire Nepali sports," reads a statement signed by Pradhan, Rana and NOC General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha.

The reinstated NOC's President Rana termed the agreement as the beginning of new ties between the two sides.

"We have started a new beginning. This will help to end the mistrust between the two sides. We have agreed to join hands to solve all the problems together and to cooperate with each other for the development of sports. This is the crux of the matter," said Rana.

He did not elaborate the details of the agreement. "Let's not talk about everything right now. We have made an important decision today. This will play an important role to help Nepali sports become free from disputes," he added.

According to internationally recognized NOC General Secretary Shrestha, both sides decided to join hands after realizing the importance of the Olympic movement. "There were two Olympic committees in Nepal. But now both have agreed to unite keeping in mind the Olympic movement," Shrestha told Republica. "We believe that this decision will delight all the stakeholders of Nepali sports," he added.

According to Shrestha, members from both sides will work together to lead Nepal's Olympic movement ahead in the coming days.
