Talking to Republica, she said, “I am getting calls from the government asking me to end my hunger strike. But I will not sit for talks with preconditions.”
Maintaining that every citizen of the country has the right to stage peaceful protest, she said, “The government can´t take away my fundamental right to protest peacefully.” She said she will continue her hunger strike till her party´s demands are met. [break]
“We have already formed a seven-member talks team under the leadership of Vice Chairman of the party Ram Baran Yadav,” she said, adding that the government has not called her party for talks yet.
Giri further said that her party has sent letters to all the heads of diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu. “I have sent letters to all the embassies as the government has been trying to foil my protests.”
On a different note, she said her party expresses solidarity with Nanda Prasad Adhikari and his wife Ganga, who have been staging hunger strike for the last 36 days in the capital demanding investigation into their son Krishna Prasad Adhikari´s murder.
“To pay solidarity to Adhikari couple´s hunger strike, we have organized a candle light protest at Shanti Batika demanding investigation into Krishna Prasad Adhikari´s murder.”
Ninteen-year-old Adhikari was abducted from Bakulahar Chowk, Ratna Nagar Municipality in Chitwan on June 2004 by then Maoist rebels and brutally killed the next day.
“I have been staging fast-unto-death for the last 19 days but the government has not sent any medical team yet,” she said, accusing the government of imposing tyranny in the country. Among other things, Giri has demanded 121 electoral constituencies in the Tarai.
“Tarai should get 121 constituencies out of the total 240,” Giri said, insisting that the electoral constituencies should be delineated in accordance with Article 63 of the interim constitution.
