KATHMANDU, Nov 5: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has urged the government to take immediate steps to safeguard the life of Dr Govinda KC, an activist campaigning for reforms in medical education.
NMA President Dr Badri Rijal and General Secretary Dr Bishwaraj Dawadi issued a joint press statement on Thursday, drawing the government’s attention to Dr KC’s deteriorating health.

The association has urged the government to create an environment for immediate talks with Dr KC and address his legitimate demands to resolve the issue.
“As serious complications have developed in Dr KC’s health, the Nepal Medical Association strongly urges the government to immediately facilitate talks with him, address his legitimate demands without delay and seek a resolution to the issue to safeguard his life,” the statement said.
The association will also hold discussions on measures to be taken to protect Dr KC’s life. According to the statement, the discussion has been scheduled for 1 pm on Friday at the association’s office.
Dr KC began the hunger strike accusing the government of failing to implement agreements reached during his previous protest and making appointments to health institutions in violation of those agreements, allegedly involving conflicts of interest.
After developing health complications, he was brought from Ilam to Kathmandu and admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
