New int'l stadium, covered hall for 13th SAG

KATHMANDU, July 9: The Government of Nepal has announced to construct a multipurpose international standard stadium and covered hall with seating capacity of 5000 targeting the 13th South Asian Games (SAG).

Unveiling the Policies and Programs for the Fiscal year 2072-73, President Ram Baran Yadav made the announcement at the meeting of Constituent Assembly on Wednesday" "Keeping in view 13th South Asian Games (SAG) in mind, a covered hall with seating capacity of 5,000 will be built and the works for a stadium of international standard will be starte"," Yadav said.

Nepal is scheduled to host the 13th SAG, the mini Olympic of the South Asian region. SAG is organized on bi-annual basis by members of SAARC countries. India is all set to host the 12th SAG by November 2015 to January 2016.

Yadav also declared to gear up the construction work of Mulpani cricket stadium, improvement works of Kirtipur cricket ground and eight other cricket grounds across the country.

Similarly, the Plans and Programs have given continuity to One Electorate one Sports ground project, increase number of games in President's Running Shield, prepare and implement a master plan for sports and work on the concept of one sports one academy.

According to the Minister for Youth and Sports Purusottam Paudel, the Finance Ministry has approved construction of international level multipurpose covered hall at Kirtipur" "Ministry of Finance (MoF) has approved budget of Rs 40 million for the construction works of covered hall. It will be built at Tribhuvan University (TU) premises in Kirtipur. The TU has agreed with MoYS for the construction wor"," Paudel said.

Similarly, Paudel further added that the (MoF) has agreed to fund for the construction of international level stadium having capacity of 100,000 spectators. The estimated cost for the construction work is Rs 1 billion" "The ministry is in the final phase of acquiring land in Jagadol, Kathmandu. MoF has expressed commitment to allocate the required amount of budget for the stadium. The rough estimation for the construction work is Rs 1 billion. The budget allocation also depends upon our ability to spend. The construction work will begin once the land is acquire"."

Paudel also expressed dissatisfaction over the slow construction pace of Mulpani cricket ground" "Rs 200 m was allocated for construction of Mulpani cricket ground in the budget of last fiscal year. But only Rs 50 million was spent. We are planning to hire consultant and sign a multi-year DPR for the project. The budget for the Mulpani is still Rs 200 "," he shared" "Rs 10 million each is allocated for construction of ground across eight different venues across the countr"."

The government has also come up with the concept of one sports one academy" "The concept is to build separate academy for separate games. Those sports association willing to construct its own academy will be benefitted by the project. However, associations should themselves make arrangement for the land. Such associations will be given Rs 3 to 4 m for construction work. Sports associations including volleyball, basketball, handball, wushu, boxing, judo and badminton will be provide the amount in the fiscal yea"," Paudel shared.

Similarly, the government has decided to come up with a master plan for 10 years for the overall development of sports" "MoYS has formed a taskforce to come up with master plan under coordination of Sports Secretary. The master plan will include plans to manage and build sports infrastructure, players training and production, talent hunt, scientific coaching to players with the view to take Nepali sports to the international level in 10 year"."
