The Gopal-Kamala Rajbhandari Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence has been announced for those doing significant social service. [break]
The award was set up by the family members of Gopal Rajbhandari, one of the founding members of Rotary International Nepal District, in his memory.
The cash prize of a million rupees will be awarded every two years to a person or organization making significant contribution in the social sector, according to Rotary District Governor Tirthaman Shakya.
At a press conference Friday, Shakya said the award will be given away in the month of October. However, the first award will be given away on April 8, 2011.
A five-member committee will be formed to select the winner of the award. The award purse will be eventually increased and it will take the shape of an award of the SAARC region, according to Santosh Sharma, spokesman of Rotary Club.
