KATHMANDU, May 6: Following devastation in Nepal due to the earthquake of April 25, the worried Nepali diaspora in Montreal have swung into action for collection of relief fund.
According to Rabindra Shrestha, though no heavy casualties have been reported to the families of Nepali residing in Canada, Nepalis here have joined hands to collect funds for earthquake victims.

Canada-based Nepali organization Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) has led the relief fund collection efforts in Canada. Nearly 100 Nepalis are living in Quebec province of Canada. ANQ has appealed, through its website, the interested donors to make donation to the association's fund.
According to the association, 2,100 Canadian Dollar (around Rs 177,862) has already been collected in the fund. Muga Rajbhandari, president of ANQ, said in the statement that the fund will be sent to Nepal in a transparent manner. "The fund collection efforts will be expanded and intensified in the days to come. We should lend our support to our motherland in this moment of crisis," Rajbhandai said a the statement.
The association also plans to organize a charity show of a movie 'La route de soi', which was filmed in Nepal, in partnership with Quebec Aventuriers Voyageurs. Quebec provincial government has also decided to donate 50,000 Canadian Dollar support to Nepal as earthquake relief fund.
Meanwhile, Quebec based telecom service provider Videotron had provided free telephone service to Nepal from April 25 to May 31, according to the statement.
