'Murder, abduction, and threat against media be stopped'

KATHMANDU, March 3: Murder, abduction and life threat against the journalists that have been taking place in different places across the country should be stopped.



Speaking at the inaugural function of the five-day long training programme to encourage women participation in the media here today, participants said that the media workers should be given an environment to write, publish and broadcast news independently. During the programme, President of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Shiva Gaunle, said journalism as a profession was a risky one and urged the media workers to carry out their duties with utmost sensitivity. He also stressed for the press freedom.[break]



Similarly, Chairperson of the National Women´s Commission, Sheikh Chand Tara, said that the cases of violence against the women have become public recently due to increasing women´s participation in the press, adding that the women´s participation in the media sector should be further increased in the days ahead to ensure the women rights. Chairman of the Madhesi Journalists Society, Mohan Singh, stressed the need of making the media inclusive and giving space to Madhesi people in the media.



Chairman of the Madheshi Media House, Rajesh Ahiraj, said the trainees would be trained on media code of conduct, news reporting, feature writing, and career development of the journalists, among other skills. As many as 50 women journalists from the Madhesh are taking part in the training. Dharmendra Jha, Jaya Shah, Govinda Shah, Tapanath Shukla, Shirish Pradhan, and Rajesh Ahiraj are the trainers.
