Print media under threat: Communications Minister Baskota

BANEPA, Sept 29: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota on Saturday said print media is under threat from new media.

BANEPA, Sept 29: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota on Saturday said print media is under threat from new media. 


"Print media is at risk of being reduced to a place where only details are documented and opinions are given, as new media is taking over," he said at a programme organised at Banepa in Kavrepalanchok district by a local guthi (trust).

He, however, suggested that print media should be reliable and credible in the context when various means of technologies are becoming accessible and highly competitive. "Popularity needs credibility, and a media house should be popular for sustenance. So, there is a need for the media to be credible." 


On the occasion, journalists Krishna Tamrakar, Bhagawati Timalsina and Srijana Duwal were honoured. Each of them received Rs 15,000 in cash. Tamrakar was associated with Radio Nepal, while Timalsina and Duwal work for Nepal Samacharpatra Daily and Sarbottam Nari Magazine, respectively.
