KATHMANDU, April 10: The chairman of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav said Wednesday his party will not take part in the upcoming elections if his party’s 12-point demand is not met first.

Speaking at a program organized by the Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, Yadav ruled out new elections without political consensus. If new polls are held overlooking political consensus, that would not help draft the new constitution, he added. [break]

Yadav was of the opinion that holding of citizenship certificate alone should not be made the only criteria for the people to be able to cast their votes in the new elections. Citing the doctrine of separation of powers, he said Chairman of Interim Election Council and Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi should immediately relinquish one of the two posts.

Yadav also said the High Level Political Committee was formed in an unconstitutional manner and demanded that the panel, which has representatives from major political parties, should be scrapped. He further charged the three major political parties with power lust and said the parties actually do not want new elections.
