Mom, son found dead in hotel

BUTWAL, Sept 5: A mother and son have died mysteriously at Rajdoot Hotel at Nepalgunj Road in Butwal. Usha Bhattarai, 30, of Birpur, Kapilvastu, who had come to Butwal on Friday for treatment and Satish, 12, were found dead in their room while 10-year-old son Vivek was rescued alive in a semi-conscious state and is being treated at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital.



The hotel owner informed the police after he found Usha lying near her bed while peeping through the door ventilation after the room remained unopened till 10 Saturday morning.



The police identified the persons from a telephone number given by the semi-conscious kid. Vivek said they had taken liquid medicine with mother assuming it to be vitamin but the police have suspected the medicine to be poison.



"There have been signs of vomiting in the room which hints at consumption of poison. But things will be clearer only after postmortem," inspector at the Area Police Office, Butwal Jeevlal Chudali said.



Usha had fixed an appointment with Dr Bishnu Poudel of Pragya Clinic for Friday but was not found to have visited the clinic. A relative said that Usha was taking medications for mental illness for a long time.
