KATHMANDU, May 28:
The Unified Communist party of Nepal (Maoist) has decided to obstruct Parliament procedures if the resolution filed in the Parliament secretariat against the President’s move is not discussed.

The Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee is set to meet on Thursday afternoon to decide whether or not to discuss the Maoist resolution that demands the House’s instruction to the President to reverse his move to retain army chief Rookmangud Katawal, just hours after a split cabinet meeting decided to sack him.

The Maoist secretariat meeting also protested the new government´s decision to establish the republic monument at Ratnapark. The erstwhile Maoist-led government had decided to establish the monument in the garden inside the Narayanhiti Palace Museum. The cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to establish the monument in Ratna Park. Apart from Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is also senior leader of CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist), there are only two ministers - Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari and Finance Minister Surendra Pandey - from the same party.

"It has clearly indicated that the CPN-UML-led government is trying to reinstate the baby-king in the country," said Maoist spokesperson, Dinanath Sharma. It was decided to establish inside the Narayanhiti Palace-turned museum as per the aspirations and spirit of the people who fought against the former Shah Kings, Sharma said.

He also termed the decision as a dictatorial action. "The cabinet has not even got its full shape. Only two ministers have revoked a decision taken by a people-elected government," he said.

The Maoist party has also decided to protest against the decision to dissolve the Ministry of State Restructuring. A meeting of 16 of the 22 political parties on Wednesday had suggested the government dissolve the Ministry and transfer its responsibility to the high-level state restructuring commission.

The 16-party meet also recommended the new government to Law, Justice and Constituent Assembly Affairs Ministry revert back to Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.

"By taking such a decision, the parties are trying to push the country toward regression and they have again followed the path of regression and anti-revolution," Sharma said.
