We all have a tendency to start the New Year with ‘new year, new me’ concept. But the resolution adopted during this special day doesn’t seem to work and some give up on it for various excuses.

Here, Republica talked to a few people to find out their New Year’s resolution, if they were able to keep their last year’s resolution and what should one do to successfully achieve any resolution.

Prayash Basnet

IT student

New Year always brings new hopes and ambitions to me like it does to others. Many resolutions are taken, some far out of reach or left ignored. I am not really an exception in that case. It was on New Year’s Eve that I prepared myself to keep some resolutions. However, the resolutions just turn obsolete and the old habits cling to me; thus, I thought of keeping up with it in the first place. I think the best way to be able to keep one’s resolutions would be by taking the most pragmatic resolutions and to act on it on a daily basis.

My New Year’s resolution is to control my anger. I usually get angry very quickly. So this year, I want to be calm and not get angry quickly. Sadly, I couldn’t meet my last year’s resolution. I think it is necessary for people to be calm and patient to achieve resolutions successfully. We should be calm and not get frustrated if something doesn’t work out.

I am not really someone who makes resolutions, more specifically in new years. It could be some random day when an inspiration occurs to me, I feel like I might have to change something in me to pave my way towards prosperity and satisfaction. Hence, I take resolutions and act on it. When I have taken a resolution and made my mind, I pay my undivided attention in keeping and doing what I have found necessary. I keep myself reminded of the resolution so that I don’t get carried away eventually.

I thus think the best way to keep one’s resolution is by regarding it as important and keeping oneself reminded of what impact it is supposed to bring to our lives.

The more I insist myself to achieve my New Year’s resolution, the more I grow reluctant. So this New Year, I have decided not to make any new resolution, but keep working on those that I have had last year. In order to make your resolutions a success, I think all you need is to pay a serious attention to make it come true. I personally suggest that you keep a reminder or have someone remind you often to work seriously on your resolutions.

Dixika Thapa

Undergraduate student

My New Year’s resolution has always been improving myself to a better level. Last year, I was able to make some improvements in myself. I have learned how to stop holding on to the things that bring me down. I’ve learned to become more positive than I was and I am certainly happier now the way I hold a view of myself. I think making resolutions are necessary for a person to have a positive attitude towards their lives and habits cultivating the belief in themselves that one should not lose hope if things get tough.

Srijana Thapa

Social worker

New Year resolutions are generally decided while we are at the moment of bidding the current year goodbye. It is the time when we review our year and plan for the further year. After I have registered what flaws and opportunities my earlier year had brought, I have tried to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. New Year resolutions are important to me and I ensure that I keep in mind its significance so that I have the energy to keep up with it and welcome a new year further.

My New Year’s resolution is to be positive and not to stress myself out by worrying about what other people think of me. Though I was not able to fulfill my last year’s resolution, I have firmly decided to make it successful this year. In my view, to successfully achieve one’s resolution, a person must need to stand firm towards one’s goals with no excuses whatsoever. One must always give a serious thought  to one’s strengths and weaknesses and work strictly to attain one’s planned resolutions.

My new year’s resolution is to read more books and make new friends. Since I want to expand my knowledge and improve my social skills, I will be paying much attention to enhancing those skills this year. My last year’s resolution was to actually get a healthy amount of fat in my body because I was growing too skinny. And I was actually able to succeed in that. I think one must have a clear vision about what they want and should have it all planned out in order to successfully achieve their resolutions. They should be confident in themselves and should have a positive outlook.
