Malaysia to ban foreign labor, Nepal to feel pinch

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The government of Malaysia has decided to stop new recruitment of foreign workers citing the effect of the ongoing global financial crisis on domestic industries, reported BBC Nepali Service quoting a Kuala Lumpur-based Nepali journalist Thursday. The Malaysian government also urged local employers to lay off foreign workers first in case of financial problem.



At present, more than two million foreign workers are working in different sectors in Malaysia among which more than 400,000 are Nepalis. Last year alone 50,626 Nepalis had gone to Malaysia for foreign employment.
