Locals shut down Dipayal (Updated)

DHANGADI, Aug 24
: Locals of Dipayal, the regional headquarters of the far-western development region, have shut down market and transportation on Monday protesting Sunday night’s police action during a fight.



Although police released all six arrested during the incident, the strike has not ended.



Govinda Mani Bhurtel, the chief district officer, said the administration is trying to end the strike.



On Sunday night, a fight between Ashok Sobh and Jhadap Bista turned ugly after a mob pelted stones on police van after police rescued Bista, who sustained injuries on ears and eyes. “They pelted stones on us when we tried to take Bista for treatment,” Deputy Inspector of Police Chiranjibi Devkota said.



Locals accused police of arresting Bista despite being innocent.



Police arrested Rabin Bahadur Singh, Bikram Bhandari, Rabin Nepali, Jhadap Bista and Keshav Bhandari.



Police has also arrested journalist Bimal Bista. Federation of Nepali Journalists, Doti chapter issued a press release in protest of the arrest.



Protesters are demanding release of all those arrested, action against the perpetrator and treatment of injured Bista.
