Twenty-six of the she-goats, which were brought to the district for distribution to the local poor of Dahan VDC under the 'Paincho Karyakram' (loan program), had died of some disease
Dan Bahadur Shahi, one of the locals, said that Ganga Bahadur Shahi, a staffer at DLSO Kalikot, held a meeting with the targetted locals following the death of the she-goats. Ganga Bahadur then sold the meat at the rate of Rs 150 per kg.
DLSO, a responsible government authority, has sold the meat of the dead goat without finding out what killed them, said Dan Bahadur. The office has cheated the locals in selling them the meat of animals killed by disease, he added.
Ganga Bahadur of the DLSO said the meat was sold to help recover the cost of the she-goats. One she-goat costs Rs 10,000.
The government had purchased 150 she-goats for distribution to targetted locals of Dahan VDC, and. 26 out of the animals died of disease, said DLSO chief Maheshi Ray Yadav. However, he said he knew nothing about the sale of the meat.
"I was informed about the death of 26 she-goats at the livestock service center at Dahan VDC. However, I do not have any information about the sale of the meat," said Yadav.
This incident speaks of carelessness on the part of the DLSO. The office has played with the health of local villagers, said Man Bahadur Shahi, another local.
He called for legal action against the DLSO for its irresponsible conduct.
