ITAHARI, Aug 7: Normal life in nine districts of the eastern region was affected on Sunday due to general strike called by Limbuwan Federal Council, the sister organization of Rastriya Janamukti Party, demanding that the districts be declared Limbuwan state.

Vehicular movement in the districts to the east of Arun that includes Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Morang, Sunsari and Terhathum were completely halted throughout the day.

The strikers, however, allowed hearse, vehicles carrying milk and funeral possessions and those belonging to the diplomatic missions and media to ply on the road.

Educational institutions and shops remained shut in the districts while most of the industries in the Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor couldn´t function in lack of staffers.

Nepali Congress (NC) also enforced a strike in Sunsari simultaneously, demanding that its cadre Sanu Yadav be declared a martyr.

Yadav was seriously injured by a police fire during a clash that ensued after security personnel confiscated cotton brought illegally from Indian market and died later of the injury.
