TAPLEJUNG, Dec 12: Normal life continue to be affected on Monday in the nine districts east of the Arun River due to the strike called by the Federal Limbuwan State Council (Sanjuhang Palungwa).

Academic institutions, industries and marketplaces have remained closed in Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Tehrathum, Dhankuta and Sankhuwasabha due to the strike. [break]

Likewise, transport services have come to a grinding halt, with no vehicles playing on all long and short routes in these districts.

The strike has been called to press for the ethnic body’s representation in the recently constituted State Restructuring Commission that has been tasked with making suggestions on the country’s federal model to be adopted in the new constitution.

The ethnic body has further threatened to go on hunger strike and, at the same time, continue with the current general shutdown, if the government continues showing ´indifference´ to meeting its demand promptly.
