Speaking at a press meet held at the Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday, Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Sanjel said the license of Golbal Nepal Network, Bhumi Television Network, Music Television Nepal, Makalu Media, Sunrise Television, Voice of Youth, Arena Television and Madhesh Ka Laagi Sanchar were cancelled.[break]
Likewise, of the 502 FM radio stations that acquired license to come into operation only 344 have begun regular transmission. In the same period, a total of 762 cable channels received the license to run service in different parts of the country.
On the occasion, spokesperson Sanjel said the movement by the cine artists came to an end following an agreement with the government. And as per the agreement, the monthly stipend for four cine artists have been given continuity through the film artist welfare fund.
The proposal to provide a grant assistance of Rs. 10 million as a support to the ongoing construction of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) building has been presented before the Council of Ministers.
Spokesperson Sanjel also disclosed that a total of 867 newspapers have been registered for classification for the fiscal year 2011/12 while the evaluation work to classify those registered for 2010/11 is underway.
