Inaugurating the Central Regional Peace Conference in Chitwan on Sunday, Minister Acharya claimed that differences remain only over the name and delineation of provinces. "There is no need to launch street protest as all the four thorny issues have been already settled. We can arrive at a consensus on the issue of name and delineation of provinces through discussions among political parties," said Acharya.
Acharya argued that the Constituent Assembly was formed to promulgate constitution and urged the opposition alliance not to make the CA irrelevant. "Let's not try to end the relevance of CA, which we established by holding election twice. We need to talk rather than trumpet street protest as a solution," he added.
He urged political parties to create environment for drafting constitution through CA, which he said was the place for giving the final shape to the constitution by assimilation of various ideologies and opinions.
Acharya said that the federalism is the political need of the country and that it would protect people's sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Minister Acharya said that Truth and Reconciliation Commission would finalize reparations for the victims of decade-long armed conflict. "Whatever provided by the government till date is only provisional reparation. TRC would decide what should be the reparation amount for every conflict victim," said Acharya. Officials of Peace Committees of 19 districts in central region are participating in the Peace Conference and are to discuss about the progress of peace process and the condition of conflict victims.
