Organizing a press meet at the police headquarters, IGP Rana said, “In order to control organized crime, the government should soon get the Organized Crime Control Act endorsed.” The bill which is in the cabinet should be endorsed at the earliest, he added.[break]
IGP Rana claimed that the police is capable of curbing crimes but lack of proper laws and technical support have tied their hands.
Speaking about late justice Rana Bahadur Bam, he said investigation into Bam´s murder is on and claimed that the culprits would be brought to book at the earliest.
IGP Rana said the police department would have zero tolerance against financial irregularities and encourage merit-based promotion and career growth. He also assured that he would make the police department more accountable to the people during his tenure.
He also informed that a board has been formed to chalk out a five-year career development plan and a committee formed to prepare a three-year tactical program for effective policing. He also disclosed that the department has Rs 966.8 million in its welfare fund.
He said, “The income and expenses of the fund would be made public in regular intervals to make it transparent."
