KATHMANDU, April 2: The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), which is responsible for the management of the water supply and sanitation system in the Kathmandu Valley, has said that it will start distributing an additional 22 million liters of water per day in the capital city until mid-May.
The KUKL said it has also made arrangements to procure 11 generators that will be used to pump underground water during load-shedding hours. [break]
"From mid- April, we will distribute water in the inner city, with the help of tankers. The process is underway to buy 10 tankers for this purpose," said a statement that was issued during a press meet on Thursday that was organized by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW).
”Furthermore, 50 poly tanks with a capacity of 2,000 liters each will be installed at several locations around the capital and will be filled by tankers until mid-April; and an additional 10 tanker-filling stations will be established and put into service by mid-May,” the KUKL said.
"We took these immediate measures to address the problem of water scarcity in the capital," Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijay Gachchhedar said at the press meet. "We are working on mid and long term solutions as well."
”The ministry has earmarked an additional Rs 64.9 million to implement the immediate measures that will address the problem of water scarcity,” said Gachchhedar.
The Kathmandu Valley needs 280 million liters a day, but the supply is only 90 million liters a day.
