According to Achyut Parajuli, a local resident of Tinkune, people of his locality have been receiving filthy water for the past several weeks. "At first, we did not care about it. We thought KUKL would stop distributing such undrinkable water soon. But we were frustrated Thursday as KUKL distributed filthy and foul smelling water," Parajuli told myrepublica.com. "And we ganged up for picketing at KUKL." [break]
Upon their picketing at KUKL office, locals learnt that the pipe laid down for distributing water was ruptured by an excavator used for upgrading Tinkune-Bhaktapur road. "Though the pipe was damaged some weeks back, neither KUKL nor the Department of Roads (DoR) bothered to repair it," Parajuli said.
According to him, the Japanese contractor entrusted with expanding the road had buried the damaged pipe without fixing it. And leaking sewage mixed with drinking water through the rupture.
Over one hundred and fifty households were receiving contaminated water in their taps. Following the protest, Uddhab KC, Baneshwar branch chief of KUKL, assured the locals that the rupture would be repaired soon. Locals have temporarily patched up the rupture. According to Locals, they had a similar problem six months ago also.
