Koirala, who arrived for a rest in his hometown Biratnagar on Wednesday, left for Kathmandu Thursday afternoon, a day before he was scheduled to do so.
NC sources said Koirala also has reservations over the four ambassadors appointed by Wednesday´s cabinet meeting.
“He was expressing his anger, saying that Prime Minister Nepal had breached consensus, cooperation and unity by expanding the cabinet,” a member of the Koirala family said.
Upon arrival at Biratnagar airport on Wednesday, Koirala had said that consensus, cooperation and unity alone could resolve all the problems facing the country.
NC ministers were conspicuously absent during the swearing-in ceremony for the newly-appointed ministers on Wednesday. “Koirala looked stressed and irate for not being asked and consulted before the cabinet was expanded,” said a NC leader who met Koirala.
Koirala was scheduled to meet party leaders, industrialists, businessmen, security officers and members of the general public Thursday morning and talk to media before his departure for Kathmandu on Friday. However, he flew back to the capital at 1 p.m. Thursday, abruptly cutting short his stay in Biratnagar.
“Girijababu was scheduled to fly back to Kathmandu on Friday. But he abruptly decided to return on Thursday,” said NC Morang District President Amrit Aryal. “He seemed relatively enraged and tense compared to other times.”
Koirala did not come out of his room though a large number of party leaders and activists, media persons and others had come to his residence Thursday morning. They queued for hours to meet Koirala, but in vain.
