"Now, if you see anyone dumping garbage at public places or rivers, or if garbage thrown at the public spaces have not been removed, capture the picture of the site and send us via the Android application. We will immediately collect the garbage and punish the wrongdoer," said Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of Environment Management Division in KMC.
He said that after KMC alone could not discouage dumping of garbage in public places in the capital, it decided to develop the application with the objective of fighting the problem with public support.
"We hope that the complaint reporting application will be useful in discouraging haphazard dumping of garbage at public places and in rivers," added he.
An android user needs to visit the Play Store to download the application entitled "Clean KTM". The application user needs to capture the photo of the garbage and mark location in the application and press 'Send Report'.
KMC had officially launched the application on Saturday coinciding with 100th week of Bagmati River Cleanup Campaign.
By Sunday afternoon, KMC has already received 10 complaints. When two membres of public using the application complained about haphazard dumping of garbage on the roadsides at Durbar Marg and Tinkune on Saturday, KMC had immediately dispatched its garbage trucks to the sites.
