KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has designated several locations for the sale and distribution of flowers and garlands during the Tihar festival.
The metropolis has urged businesses, traders and the general public not to sell or use plastic flowers, garlands and decorative items within its jurisdiction during the festival. It has also called on traders to prioritise locally produced flowers and garlands.
Commercial flower farming for Tihar on the rise
According to a notice issued by the metropolis, plastic or substandard flowers, garlands and decorative materials found on sale will be confiscated.
The Municipal Police Force, in coordination with concerned agencies, has designated specific locations to facilitate the sale of flowers and garlands produced by Nepali farmers, the metropolis said.
The arrangement aims to promote domestic flower production, ensure farmers have access to markets during the festival season and discourage the use of plastic flowers, as demand for flowers and garlands rises during Tihar.
