House panel seeks progress on implementation of govt decisions post-quake

KATHMANDU, May 18: Disaster Management, Monitoring and Direction Special Committee of parliament has sought details of the implementation of government decisions and commitments to the government.

A meeting of the committee on Monday also sought the details of implementation status of the decisions made by home ministry in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake.

Submitting its report the sub-committee under the committee has sought details of Rs 100,000 distributed as relief money to the quake victims and Rs 40,000 provided to families of the deceased for funeral rites.Speaker Subas Nembang-led committee has also decided to observe government warehouses and health and medical centers. Seeking the number of injured undergoing free health treatment from various government and non-government hospitals, the committee has also decided to hold discussion with the health mechanism formed by the government.

The parliamentary panel has also asked the government to set the criteria for categorizing quake-hit houses as safe, partially damaged and destroyed. The committee has also sought progress on the implementation of government decision to open fair price shops.

The committee has also suggested to the government to make public the details of distribution of relief money or goods from government to each and every ward offices.
