A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday decided to build the temporary shelters in the 14 districts severely affected by the April 25 earthquake.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, spokesperson of the government, Minister for Information and Communications Sher Dhan Rai said the meeting has also directed the Ministry of Urban Development to prepare a directive for constructing temporary collective accomodations in the 14 districts and forward it to the cabinet for approval as soon as possible.
He said the government took the decision to provide shelters to those victims who have been rendered homeless by the earthquake.
The 14 severely affected districts are Okhaldunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Dhading, Makwanpur, Gorkha and Sindhuli.
Two days ago, a cabinet meeting decided to provide Rs 10,000 each to the earthquake-affected families as winter relief.
According to a report by UNOCHA, some 95,100 people still remain displaced by the earthquake and they have been taking refuge in various temporary settlements due to the delay on the part of the government to start reconstruction work in the earthquake-affected districts.
During monsoon, the government had set up similar kind of temporary shelters for the earthquake victims in the 14 districts.
