KATHMANDU, June 5: The government has formed a committee to conduct a detailed investigation into 779 electric vehicles seized from different locations on suspicion of revenue evasion.
The committee was formed on Thursday under the special direction of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, with representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Customs, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Nepal.
Import of electric vehicles increased by 600 percent last year
According to Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s press and research adviser Dipa Dahal, the government moved quickly to form the panel as part of its commitment to good governance and protection of state revenue.
She said the committee has already begun on-site investigations where the vehicles were seized.
“As the number of vehicles is large, detailed verification of customs and revenue-related documents will take some time,” Dahal said, urging patience until the investigation is completed.
She added that the government remains committed to strengthening the economy and ensuring strict law enforcement.
