“As per the committee´s direction, the Home Ministry will now provide security to make sure supplies of essential commodities to different parts of the country including the capital remain smooth,” said Deepak Subedi, joint secretary at the Ministry of Supplies and Commerce (MoCS).

The committee issued such instructions after bandas organized by various groups crippled transportation, affecting availability of basic commodities in the market.

Under its instruction, the committee has also directed to the Health Ministry to make immediate arrangement for sufficient supply of oxygen cylinders in the hospitals.

“We were informed by the Health Ministry officials that there was no problem with the stock of oxygen cylinders. Hospital felt scarcity because those could not be transported,” said Subedi. “Health Ministry officials have expressed commitment to ensure uninterrupted supplies of oxygen cylinder to hospital henceforth.”
