Starting early in the morning at 8 am from Basantapur Durbar Square, the participants will end their cycle rally at Jawalakhel ground. The girls can then join in the fun hand printing activity to be a part of the message that speaks of solidarity for the education of the girl child.
The objective of the girls-only cycle rally, whose theme is ‘Girls Empowerment’, is to inspire young girls and women to take up cycling, states the press release. A girl who cycles symbolizes someone independent and liberated.
Aparna Singh, member of Cycle City Network Nepal, informs, “Participants can bring their own cycles to the rally but we will be providing cycles to those who don’t have one.”
Participants will gather at 7 am and will receive a jersey at the start of the rally as well as provided with lunch.
Participation is free for all and interested girls should fill in the registration form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1RDLjyJEQJGtMefbPPDeVKp6Zk8GCVmLHdMYyt5PqPqg/viewform#start=invite. Also, check Facebook for more information about the cycle rally.
