Organizing a press meet on Thursday, GEFONT stated that it distributed relief materials to the earthquake victims in the most affected areas in collaboration with various national and international organizations.
Bishnu Rimal, president of GEFONT, said that they distributed relief materials to hungry victims in the first stage; victims with poor access to the authorities were provided relief materials in the second stage and the relief materials to the victims in the remote areas were distributed in the third phase.'We coordinated with local bodies and distributed relief materials in the areas where relief materials had yet to reach,' said he.
Organizations like AD Foundation, ITUC and its regional organizations, WMM of Belgium and AFID of Australia had provided relief materials to GEFONT.
GEFONT had distributed relief materials to victims in Bheksimla, Chambrabesi, Melche, and Sallaghari of Kavre district; Bhulgukhatri Phakha, Jhangahiti, Kisihiti of Kathmandu district; Likhu, Mahadevi, Ratamate, Charghate Dui Pipal, Simle, Mandre Dhunga, Gauribesi of Nuwakot district and Jhorlema of Rasuwa district. It had mobilized around 2000 volunteers for relief distribution.
President Rimal also said that GEFONT will also extend support for the rehabilitation of the victims. 'Currently, construction workers are frightened by the frequent earthquakes. They are in not mentally prepared to start construction work. We are working to bring them back to work,' said he.
He said that other organizations associated with GEFONT also distributed relief materials in various quake-hit areas.
