KATHMANDU, Oct 9: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that the current government led by Sushila Karki was formed forcibly rather than through a constitutional process.
Speaking at a program organized by Bhaktapur UML in Gundu on Thursday, Oli said the country’s current situation is extraordinary and abnormal. “The government in place today was not formed as per the constitution—it was formed through force,” he remarked.
Oli accused Prime Minister Sushila Karki of setting conditions before assuming office. “She said, ‘I will take the oath and dissolve Parliament immediately; only then will I become Prime Minister. Otherwise, Gen Z will set the country on fire,’” he quoted Karki as saying.
Oli alleged that Karki assumed office on the precondition of dissolving Parliament, thereby dismantling the sovereign people’s supreme representative institution. “Sushila Karki became Prime Minister on the condition of undermining the very foundation of democracy,” Oli said.
He further accused PM Karki of working with a specific political motive. Oli also claimed that the government’s decision to withhold passports of several leaders, including himself, is a “political drama.” “Will KP Oli run away out of fear of Sushila Karki?” he asked sarcastically.
Oli said that holding elections on March 5 was not PM Karki’s mandate but President Ram Chandra Paudel’s. He also questioned Karki’s intentions, expressing doubt over whether she genuinely intends to hold the elections.
