KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has sought additional security from the Kathmandu Valley Police Office after being arrested and released within a day.
Rana, who was detained late Saturday night and released without charges on Sunday afternoon, sent a letter to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office in his son Sachindra’s name on Sunday, requesting additional security.

Rana was detained on Saturday citing a security threat. Police officials who came to arrest him without a warrant reportedly said he had to be taken to a police station and kept there for his safety amid fears of an attack by Gen Z protesters.
However, the police did not specify where the threat originated, who had identified it, when it had been identified or what action had been taken against those allegedly posing the threat.
Rana has now sought additional security based on the same unspecified claim by police.
Five Armed Police Force personnel and two junior Nepal Police officers have been taking turns providing security at his residence.
