The constitutional body on Monday issued a public notice asking such candidates to furnish clarifications regarding the issue by Tuesday. [break]
Though the EC had asked the candidates and their respective political parties to furnish their clarifications by Monday, most of them and the parties concerned did not do so.
According to sources privy to developments, about 90 candidates and their respective parties had furnished clarifications within a previous deadline set by the EC.
The EC has said that 80 candidates from six political parties are not registered in the new electoral roll with photo and biometrics.
Similarly, 149 candidates incorporated in the closed list of candidates do not meet the minimum age requirement of 25 years to be a member the Constituent Assembly (CA).
According to the EC, there are 62 cases in which the candidacy of the same individual has been filed by more than one political party.
Likewise, there are 19 candidates who are in the closed lists of various political parties under both the first-past-the-post (FPTP) and proportional representation electoral systems.
Narwedeshwar Shukla is in the PR list of the Rastrabadi Ekata Party and in the FPTP list of Akhanda Nepal Party.
Devendra Nath Pandey is in the FPTP list of UCPN (Maoist) and in the PR list of Nepal Gauravshali Party, while Maksud Ali is in the FPTP list of UCPN (Maoist) and in the PR list of Nepal Gauravshali Party.
Bhagawati Thapa is in the PR list of Rastrabadi Ekata Party and in the FPTP list of Janata Party Nepal. Surya Bikaram Sunuwar is in the PR list of Samajbadi Janata Party and in the FPTP list of Jana Unity Co-operative Party Nepal, while Devendra Kishor Dhungana is in the PR list of Lokatantrik Party Nepal and in the FPTP list of Nava Nepal Nirman Party.
Similarly, Bishnu Bahadur Shrestha is in both the PR and FPTP lists of the CPN (Marxist-Leninist) while Gita Sharma is in the PR list of Hindu Prajantrik Party Nepal and in the FPTP list of Nepal Janata Party.
Sunita Chaudhari is in both the PR and FPTP lists of Nepal Pariwar Dal. Tanka Nath Khanal is in the PR list of Shanti Party Nepal and in the FPTP list of Nepal Pariwar Dal.
Likewise, Ganesh Man Bibral and Kamala Kumari KC are in both the PR and FPTP lists of Nepal Pariwar Dal while Bishnu Prasad Ghimire is in both the PR and FPTP lists of Nepal Workers Peasants Party.
Gita Devi Mandal is in both the PR and FPTP lists of Nepal Sadbhawana Party. Also, Gopal Kurmi is in the PR list of Loka Dal and in the FPTP list of Rastriya Janata Dal Nepal.
According to the EC, the names of nine candidates in the closed lists have been repeated under the same electoral system while eight political parties including UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have filed the candidacies of 13 individuals representing backward regions although those individuals are in fact not from such regions.
As per the calendar of events for the proportional electoral system, the EC will make public the final list of candidates on November 15.
