DSP caught red-handed with Rs 35,000

KATHMANDU, July 26: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday evening arrested DSP Tejendra Paudel, chief at Metropolitan Police Circle Office Thankot, while taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a scrap dealer.



According to Shreedhar Sapkota, spokesperson at CIAA, DSP Paudel was arrested upon a complaint by the scrap dealer. After Paudel demanded Rs 35,000 for a vehicle carrying scrap to exit the Valley, the dealer informed the CIAA.



According to the deal, Paudel came to Kalanki at around 5:30 pm to receive the money. CIAA officers caught him red-handed on the spot while taking the money.

SSP Hemanta Bahadur Paal, spokesperson at Metropolitan Police Commissioner Office, confirmed the arrest and said Paudel was arrested on the charge of corruption.



“CIAA arrested DSP Paudel and is investigating the case," he said adding, "if found guilty he will be suspended from his post and further action taken according to the legal provisions."



Paudel was only recently promoted to DSP.
