KATHMANDU, March 15: Detained journalist Rishi Dhamala on Sunday moved the Patan Appellate Court with a plea against the February 27 decision of the Kathmandu District Administration Office that has prevented his release.

Arrested on February 3, Dhamala is currently in Dillibazar Sadarkhor prison and faces charges under Arms and Ammunition Act. The Kathmandu District Administration Office has however refused Dhamala bail.

Dhamala moved the appellate court two days after the Kathmandu District Court decided to release him on a general date. The court order has not been effective due to the decision of the Kathmandu District Administration Office.

In the plea, Dhamala has questioned the legality of the February 27 decision of the Kathmandu District Administration Office.

Dhamala will be released if the Patan Appellate Court nullifies the decision of the Kathmandu District Administration Office.

In the meantime, the appellate court is holding an initial hearing on Dhamala’s plea Monday.
