Every year, the river witnesses a religious fair from full moon day of Poush to the full moon day of Magh.
People believe that their wishes come true if they take a holy dip in the river in the morning and worship Goddess Swosthani in the afternoon.
Myth has that Parvati had begun worshiping a Shivalinga on the bank of the river on the full moon day of the month of Poush in the Satyayuga wishing to get lord Shiva as her husband and her wish had come true at the end of the month-long devotion.
Mostly unmarried women throng the Shali River as it is believed that they get husbands of their choice id they take a bath in the river and worship the goddess throughout the month.
A significant number of marries women also visit the area, as they believe that the holy bath in the river and worshipping of the goddess leads to family happiness and peace.
Meanwhile, a report from Saptari said, devotees from many parts of Nepal and India thronged the banks of the Koshi River for a holy dip in the river Thursday.
It is believed that a dip in Koshi River once a year on the full moon day of the month of Poush cleanses all sins and frees the devotees from skin diseases. Devotees take curd and beaten rice and sweets after taking a bath in the river.
