Curfew in Kohalpur

NEPALGUNJ, July 29: Banke district administration has imposed a curfew in Kohalpur and on the East-West Highway to contain public rage against the use of force by police to open the highway closed by locals and relatives of a youth killed by a bus three days ago.



The administration announced the from 4:30 p.m. till 4:00 a.m. on Thursday as tensions flared following police failure even after 48 hours to nab non-licensed driver Bhim Bahadur Thapa who killed motorcyclist Basudev Poudel, 21, of Rajhena-3. Thapa also injured Poudel´s 17-year-old sister Sarita, who was pillion-riding. Around half a dozen people were injured and 11 were arrested by police while re-opening the obstructed highway.



The locals, who continued to protest and pelt stones even during curfew, were chased into the house of the dead youth and thrashed by the police.
