Seventy seven years old Krishna Bahadur Tiwari of Surkhet and Laxmi Maya Moktan of Udaypur, who have been on fast-unto-death since August 8 were also admitted to Bir Hospital in critical condition on Sunday.[break]
Tiwari is seeking justice for his brother who was allegedly killed by the state in 1979. Similarly, Moktan is demanding that her husband be declared martyr, who was killed by the Panchayat government in 1961.
Seeking action against the murderer of their son, Nanda Prasad Adhikari and his wife Gangamaya, have been on hunger strike at the hospital for the past 11 days.
Following death threats from then armed group, the Adhikari couple fled their native place Fugel VDC in Gorkha district.
A petition was filed by Nanda Prasad seeking action against those involved in the murder of his son in 2006. Adhikari has pointed at UCPN (Maoist) as the culprit in the petition, which remains undecided at the court.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has repeatedly raised concern urging the government to ensure basic human rights of its citizens, referring to those who are on hunger strike.
The NHRC has also urged the government to implement its recommendation to book the guilty at the earliest. The commission in April 2009 had sent the case to the government recommending relief and reparations for the victim´s family.
