KATHMANDU, Nov 20: The cabinet secretariat has rejected a proposal to introduce Farmer Relief Card -- a privilege card for poor farmers -- and asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) to first seek consent of the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

The MoAC had sough the cabinet´s nod to start the ambitious program in 17 districts in the first phase.

"We will now seek consent from the MoF," a high-level source at the MoAC told Republica.

The relief card was aimed at providing relief to farmers by giving them subsidy on key agriculture inputs like fertilizers and pesticides.

The MoAC has already ordered the Department of Printing to print around 15,000 copies of the cards.
