KHOTANG, Aug 28: Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality has started distributing 'farmer credit card' to the farmers of the municipality.
The initiative was launched to provide subsidized credit to farmers for commercial agriculture and livestock and encourage small farmers to engage in commercial agriculture enterprises. Mayor Tirtha Bhattarai said farmer credit cards along with loans were provided to farmers in collaboration with Global IME Bank, R&D Innovative Solution Pvt Ltd and the municipality.

"In the first phase, farmer credit cards were distributed to 21 farmers of the municipality. We are planning to gradually distribute credit cards to other farmers. But the farmers who received credit subsidy cannot withdraw cash from the account by using the credit card," he further said, "Arrangements have been made to spend up to Rs 200,000 through the card. Farmers can purchase fertilizers, seeds and equipment by scanning the QR code of the credit card."
