CHITWAN/BUTWAL, June 4: A speeding bus veered off and fell some 50 meters down from the road at Daunne of Nawalparasi district late Monday afternoon, killing five passengers and injuring 19 others, including nine women.
The bus (Lu 1 Kha 4094) reserved by the World Vision, a non-government organization, was returning from Chitwan to Butwal when the mishap occurred. A total of 24 people were aboard, mostly farmers, at the time of the incident. [break]
The identities of the deceased are yet to be established. Of the deceased, three were killed on the spot while the other two succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to Butwal for treatment, police said.
Of the inured, 11 are receiving medical treatment at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital and Butwal City Hospital. The rest are undergoing treatment in Bhairahawa.The bus was at a high speed, Padma Thapa, one of the injured, said. Most of the injured are from Rupandehi district.
