Integration must before statute: Chemjong

UDAYAPUR: Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong on Wednesday said the peace process can not be taken to a logical conclusion as long as any political party retains an army. Speaking at a function in Okhaldhunga, Chemjong said army integration, conclusion of the peace process and constitution-writing are the major tasks that the government should accomplish at the earliest. He also stressed that the task of army integration must be accomplished before promulgation of the constitution.

UNMIN no longer required: Govt

TULSIPUR: Government Spokesperson Shankar Pokharel on Wednesday said extension of UNMIN term beyond January 15 would debilitate the state. “There is no need to ask UNMIN to stay any longer. Its term had been extended for the last time,” said Pokharel. He argued continuous monitoring of the Nepal Army by the UN body would also affect the morale of the national army. Pokharel also said Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel must withdraw his candidacy so as to forge consensus between the political parties.
